Announcing the Ideas in Testing Research Seminar, November 10, 2023

Graduate students, researchers and testing professionals are cordially invited to attend the tenth annual Ideas in Testing Research Seminar hosted by the Department of Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and Pearson VUE.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduate students and members of the midwest testing community to come together to discuss ideas, share expertise and develop professional relationships. The seminar will include presentations of research in progress, discussion of current trends in testing and an opportunity to meet with colleagues in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Registration

Complimentary morning coffee and a lunch will be provided by Pearson VUE for registered guests and thus we ask that you please reserve your seat by November 3, 2023 by emailing Kirk Becker (). Any attendees interested in heading over to Chinatown for dinner after the seminar should let us know so we can make reservations.

Call for submissions

Submissions to the seminar are encouraged. The range of acceptable topics is broad and includes but is not limited to:

Test security and data forensics
Non-cognitive competencies in certification and hiring
Online proctoring or medium of testing (e.g., mobile testing)
Longitudinal testing and new models for maintenance of certification
Educational or I-O research involving natural language processing (NLP) and computational linguistics (CL)
Vocational counseling, career interests, placement, or work attitudes
Applications of analytics, AI, or ML to assessment or related areas
Simulations and games-based assessment
Automated item generation
Innovations in work, task, or practice analysis
Computer adaptive and multistage adaptive testing
Cognitive Diagnostic Models, error analysis, and diagnostic testing
Innovations in score reporting
Assessment in personality, work or clinical settings
Bayes nets, naive Bayes, MIRT, Rasch measurement, or other advanced models
Innovations in item design and presentation

Potential presenters should submit a 500-word abstract of their research to : Alan Mead (), Scott Morris () and Kirk Becker () by October 13, 2023. We will also need your slides or a paper to post to the website after the meeting.

Transportation

Parking is available in the lot just north of the MTCC for $12.50 (more parking info). If you are arriving by public transportation, the GREEN line 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stop is closest; the 35th-Sox RED line stop is about a mile away.
